Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu –
Two bottles, reportedly filled with kerosene or petrol, were thrown at the office of Karti Chidambaram, the Member of Parliament for Sivaganga, in Karaikudi early Wednesday morning. The incident, which police are investigating, has prompted a review of security and a look into the MP's recent controversial public statements.

Sources within the investigation suggest a link between the attack and remarks made by Chidambaram concerning the recent geopolitical tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. During a press conference, Chidambaram described the late Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's rule as "brutal," a statement that appears to have drawn significant ire, evidenced by preceding protests and poster campaigns against him in the Sivaganga district.

The attack occurred around 2:30 AM. Unidentified individuals are believed to be responsible. Upon discovery by staff members in the morning, the remnants of broken glass bottles and burn marks on the premises prompted immediate notification of the Karaikudi North police. The office, which is also reportedly used by former Union Minister P. Chidambaram, was locked at the time, and no injuries were reported. The watchman, who was inside the office, was reportedly asleep.

Authorities confirmed that a CCTV camera at the site was damaged by the perpetrators before their escape, complicating the immediate collection of visual evidence. Police have subsequently increased security around residences and offices associated with the Congress leader.

The exact timing of the incident remains unclear, with some reports noting a lack of comprehensive CCTV surveillance at the location. The impact of the thrown bottles, referred to by various terms including "kerosene bombs," "petrol bombs," and "Molotov cocktails," was visible on the premises, though significant structural damage does not appear to have been sustained.
In the aftermath, P. Chidambaram took to the social media platform X, characterizing the incident as a symptom of the DMK government's alleged failure to uphold law and order.
