Accusations Center on Undermining Democratic Systems and Neglect of Welfare
T. Harish Rao, a senior legislator from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and former minister, has launched a sharp critique against the ruling Congress party in Telangana. His central argument posits that the Congress is exhibiting a pattern of "double standards," espousing constitutional values in Delhi while allegedly undermining democratic institutions and failing to deliver on welfare promises within the state.

Key allegations leveled by Rao include the deliberate keeping of the Deputy Speaker post in the Telangana Assembly vacant for an extended period, mirroring a situation he claims the Congress criticizes at the national level but perpetuates locally. He further asserts that the government, while claiming financial constraints to implement welfare schemes for farmers, women, and students, is concurrently pushing ahead with projects like the Musi River rejuvenation, which he suggests is mired in corruption and leads to unwarranted demolitions.

Erosion of Rural Governance and Welfare Setbacks
The BRS leader’s accusations extend to the perceived dismantling of the Panchayat Raj system, leaving villages without elected representatives and consequently without a voice or direction. Rao contends that the Congress government, in its tenure, has neglected rural development and that the current administration, led by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, appears disconnected from the realities on the ground.

Specific criticisms also target the state of Gurukul schools, which Rao claims are facing a crisis due to government apathy. He highlights significant unpaid rent arrears, a lack of essential supplies like uniforms, and the resulting jeopardization of students from marginalized communities.

Promises vs. Reality in Employment
Furthermore, Rao challenges the Congress's employment promises, stating that while 200,000 jobs were pledged, only a fraction, approximately 12,000 positions, have reportedly been filled. This disparity, he argues, amounts to a betrayal of public trust.

In a broader sense, Rao accuses the Congress government of "murdering democracy" and alleges that police officers are acting as party agents, facilitating the alleged illegal arrest and mistreatment of BRS workers.
Background
The critiques emerge against the backdrop of the Congress party's ascent to power in Telangana, following a period of BRS governance. Harish Rao, a prominent figure within the BRS, has positioned himself as a vocal opposition voice, consistently challenging the policies and actions of the current state government. His statements aim to highlight perceived governance failures and what he frames as a deviation from constitutional principles by the ruling party.
