Pawan Kalyan, the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and leader of the Jana Sena party, has articulated his longstanding support for Telangana statehood not as a political maneuver, but as a matter of deep-seated conviction. In recent pronouncements via the social media platform X, Kalyan asserted that his commitment to Telangana’s formation was cemented long before it became a politically expedient issue.

Kalyan points to his participation in the 2009 Telangana Samajika Nyaya Sabha, an event alongside student leaders and the late activist Gaddar, as the genesis of his stand. He contends that the position he adopted then was a direct reflection of his unwavering commitment to the people and aspirations of Telangana.

Asserting Presence and Opposition
The Jana Sena chief has also declared the party’s intention to remain a fixture in Telangana, announcing plans to contest the 2029 elections there. This move signals an intent to actively engage with and address public issues and perceived injustices within the state. Kalyan has openly criticized the current Congress government in Telangana for allegedly denying permission for a planned public meeting, framing it as an obstruction to his party's efforts to voice concerns.

A Path of Risk and Resolve
In parallel with his statements on Telangana, Kalyan has shared the poem “That is my path” by the renowned Telugu poet Seshendra. This inclusion suggests a framing of his political journey as one inherently fraught with challenges and risks, underscoring a personal commitment to navigating such difficulties.

Historical Context
Kalyan’s engagement with the Telangana statehood movement dates back to 2009, when he was at the helm of the Praja Rajyam Party’s youth wing, Yuva Rajyam. His involvement in the Telangana Samajika Nyaya Sabha alongside figures like Gaddar, a prominent artist and activist known for his contributions to the Telangana movement, places his stance within the broader historical context of the agitation. The Praja Rajyam Party, founded by actor Chiranjeevi, had previously expressed support for Telangana statehood.
