Vigilance and Enforcement officials have detained three trucks, each loaded with roughly 100 metric tonnes of sand, halting what they describe as an interstate smuggling operation originating in Andhra Pradesh and destined for Telangana. The accused, identified as Dodda Srinivasa Rao and Dodda Praveen, along with associated drivers and other participants, are facing charges for the unauthorized transport of sand. This operation was reportedly conducted without the necessary permits, a move officials say resulted in a loss of government revenue.
The interception occurred on the outskirts of a village in Khammam district, following a tip-off. The sand, according to the report, was sourced from the 'Kovvur sand ramp' in the 'East Godavari district' of Andhra Pradesh. The alleged method of operation involved using 'earth movers' to load the sand, which was then moved across state lines without proper authorization. Efforts to apprehend other individuals believed to be involved are ongoing.
