Calls for Restructured Cultivation in Guntur
Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar, has pushed for a re-evaluation of how farming operates at the ground level. His pronouncements, made on Saturday and echoed across reports, center on implementing village-wise crop planning as a cornerstone for making agriculture in Guntur district both sustainable and profitable.
The minister's agenda highlights the critical need for localized agricultural strategies, moving beyond broad directives to specific, community-driven plans.
Key directives from the minister and associated discussions include:
Seed Village Initiative: The suggestion to establish at least one seed village within each mandal aims to ensure access to quality planting material at a local level.
Cost Reduction and Income Enhancement: Pemmasani pointed to crop diversification, bund cultivation, and multi-cropping as practical methods to lower expenses and boost farmers' earnings.
Technology-Driven Awareness: The Agricultural University is tasked with creating a dedicated YouTube channel. This platform is intended to offer continuous awareness programs for farmers, specifically tailored to the mandal level.
Community Engagement: The idea of organizing gram sabhas (village assemblies) was put forth as a means to foster greater understanding and participation among farmers regarding these new strategies.
Broader Development Agenda Emerges
Beyond agricultural directives, Dr. Pemmasani Chandrasekhar has also been vocal about a wider development and welfare push in the region. Speaking at an "Aatmiya Sammelanam" in Kakumanu village, Guntur district, on Sunday, he reaffirmed the government's commitment to fulfilling election promises.
This broader commitment extends to tangible improvements in local infrastructure and facilities. Plans under consideration include enhancements to burial grounds, schools, and sanitation in educational institutions.

Adding a personal touch, Dr. Chandrasekhar pledged to use his own funds for the establishment of an RO plant in a Dalit colony, addressing a long-standing local request. The gathering saw participation from Gade Venkateswara Rao, President of the Jana Sena Party in Guntur district, alongside leaders from the Telugu Desam and BJP.
Contextualizing the Push
The focus on village-level agricultural planning and broader development initiatives comes as discussions around governance and rural upliftment gain momentum. The emphasis on practical, localized solutions in farming suggests a shift towards addressing the specific needs and conditions of farming communities in Guntur. The minister's involvement in community events and personal commitments underscore an attempt to connect policy with grassroots realities.
