An unidentified cargo ship has reported an attack near the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global shipping lane, amidst ongoing diplomatic maneuvers. The incident occurred as Iran indicated it is reviewing a response from the United States to a 14-point proposal aimed at ending the ongoing conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for global oil transport, has become a focal point of tension since the war began on February 28. Iran's control over the strait has significantly impacted global markets, with reports suggesting Iran's oil storage is rapidly filling.
Iranian officials have maintained a firm stance, with Deputy Parliament Speaker Ali Nikzad stating Tehran will not alter its position on the Strait of Hormuz or revert to pre-war conditions. This declaration was made during a visit to strategic port facilities on Larak Island.
Meanwhile, the Iranian currency, the rial, has continued its downward trend against the US dollar, reflecting economic instability. Iran previously sent its proposal through Pakistan, which facilitated direct talks between Iran and the US last month.
President Trump has voiced skepticism regarding the peace process, warning that further military action remains a possibility, despite a fragile three-week ceasefire. He has also announced "Project Freedom," a mission designed to escort ships of nations not involved in the conflict safely through the Strait of Hormuz, slated to begin Monday. The US Central Command stated that 49 commercial vessels have already been advised to turn back.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed that Iran is assessing the US response to its latest proposal for ending the war, clarifying that these discussions do not pertain to nuclear negotiations. The crew of the attacked cargo ship, which was traveling northbound off Sirik, Iran, east of the strait, were reported to be unharmed.
