Mumbai, India – April 13, 2026 – The city of Mumbai today rendered full state honours to the legendary singer Asha Bhosle, marking the final rites at Shivaji Park crematorium. The cremation, scheduled for 4 PM, saw a procession of mourners, including prominent figures from entertainment, sports, and politics.
Asha Bhosle's mortal remains, draped in the Indian tricolour, were brought from her Lower Parel residence, where tributes had been offered since morning. The ceremonial draping of the casket with the national flag underscored the profound national respect accorded to the iconic vocalist.
Earlier, Bhosle was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital following a brief illness. Her passing marks what many are calling the 'end of an era' in Indian music.
The final ceremonies witnessed a somber gathering of individuals from various spheres of public life. Among those paying their respects were actors like Jackie Shroff, Tabu, Asha Parekh, Poonam Dhillon, and Riteish Deshmukh. Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and his wife Anjali were also present, alongside music composer AR Rahman.

Notable political figures, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, were in attendance. Fadnavis had also paid his respects at Bhosle's residence on the previous evening. The Maharashtra government's decision to accord state honours reflects the singer's immense contribution to the cultural landscape.
The singer's granddaughter, Zanai Bhosle, was seen visibly distressed during the last rites. Her son, Anand Bhosle, had reportedly urged fans to avoid crowding the Shivaji Park venue, seeking to manage the public attendance.
Other figures who offered condolences or tributes included Javed Ali, Javed Akhtar (who shared throwback photographs), Uddhav Thackeray, and Shatrughan Sinha. International recognition also came from British musician Boy George.
