While the notion of passenger flights, once a fixture of Manston's past, has been floated, current indications and publicly available plans heavily favor its reinvention as a dedicated air cargo hub.

This push towards reactivation has entered a critical phase: a public consultation. This stage, designated Stage 3 in the airspace change proposal process, will present proposed alterations to flight paths and the overall airspace structure to local residents, communities, and other interested parties. The confirmation that proposed flight routes and future plans will be unveiled signals a concrete step toward reopening the Kent-based facility.

Despite historical associations with holiday destinations like Italy, Portugal, and Amsterdam, the contemporary vision for Manston is starkly different. This strategic pivot towards freight operations appears to be the dominant narrative, with current documentation focusing exclusively on its role as an air freight center.

While whispers of budget airline interest, perhaps echoing the site's former passenger-carrying days, persist, RSP has yet to secure commitments from any carriers. The prospect of airlines like Jet2 and TUI operating from Manston is presented as a preference for regional airports, but remains speculative at this juncture.

A DECADE OF DORMANCY AND DIVERSE DESIGNATIONS
Manston Airport, previously known as Kent International Airport and briefly London Manston Airport, has been shuttered since 2014. Its operational history spans decades, having facilitated connections across the UK, Ireland, and continental Europe. The current revival efforts are reportedly in their final stages, with ongoing discussions with a European funding partner. The ambitious timeline places potential operational readiness in 2029.
