Player Arraigned on Assault Allegation
Quintayvious Hutchins, a rookie defender for the New England Patriots, appeared in Newton District Court on Wednesday and entered a plea of not guilty to a charge of assault and battery on a family or household member. Hutchins, 23, was released on his own recognizance. The legal proceedings stem from an alleged altercation on Tuesday at a Boston College residence hall.
A residence hall assistant reported hearing an argument and then observing Hutchins push a woman and place his hand around her neck. Court documents state the alleged incident occurred on Tuesday, May 12. The woman involved in the incident reportedly declined to have visible marks on her neck photographed and did not request a restraining order.
Details of the Allegation and Release
Boston College police questioned the woman, who told them nothing had happened. Following interviews, police arrested Hutchins and took him for booking. Hutchins was released on personal recognizance, meaning he did not have to post bail. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for June 29.

Hutchins, drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round (247th overall) from Boston College, signed his rookie contract with the team last week. He left the team's rookie minicamp practice on Saturday early due to an undisclosed injury.
Background
The charge against Hutchins, a misdemeanor, comes after a period of significant transition for the young player, including his transition from college athletics to the professional ranks and signing his first NFL contract. The Patriots have not issued a public statement regarding the charge. The team selected Hutchins just weeks ago, making him a late-round draft pick. Hutchins is from Alabama and was a team captain at Boston College.
