VIJAYAWADA – Authorities have detained a man following an alleged attempt to discharge a firearm at police officers during an ongoing operation near the Pandit Nehru Bus Station. The incident transpired during a hotel inspection, part of a wider state police initiative. A country-made pistol and ammunition were reportedly recovered from the individual.
The man, said to be from Telangana, was apprehended after a brief chase by police and members of the EAGLE (Elite Anti-Narcotics Group for Law Enforcement) team. Officials confirmed that all participating officers were unharmed.
The event occurred amidst ‘Operation Vajra Prahar,’ a multi-district drive focused on intensified checks and drug-related activities. Police conducted cordon-and-search operations, including at Balaji Hotel, where the suspect was encountered. The operation, according to police reports, involved awareness campaigns alongside enforcement measures.
Details regarding the specifics of the pistol's alleged malfunction remain varied across reports, with one noting it "reportedly jammed." The Krishnalanka police are currently leading the investigation.
