A man has died ten days after a collision involving his scooter and an SUV reportedly driven by a minor. His wife, who was riding with him, remains in critical condition. The incident has led to the upgrade of police charges against the minor and his father.

The incident occurred on February 5th near Somaiya College in the Vidyavihar area of Mumbai. The victim, identified as Dhurmil Patel, and his wife, Minal Patel, were traveling on their scooter when they were struck by an SUV. Both sustained grievous injuries and were taken to the hospital. Mr. Patel succumbed to his injuries on Sunday, ten days after the accident.

The Tilak Nagar police station has registered a case against the 17-year-old driver and his father. The father is accused of allowing an underage person to drive. Initially, charges were filed for causing injury. With Mr. Patel's death, the First Information Report (FIR) will be updated with sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita pertaining to causing death.

Investigators have conducted a site inspection and are reviewing CCTV footage to determine the speed of the SUV and the circumstances surrounding the collision.

Investigation Details
The collision took place on the night of February 5th near Somaiya College on Tansa Pipeline Road. Dhurmil Premji Patel, aged 33, and Meenal Patel, aged 32, were on their scooter when the SUV, allegedly traveling at high speed from the opposite direction, hit them.
The FIR has been registered against Valji Raja Bhushan, the 43-year-old father of the 17-year-old driver.
Charges under Sections 184 and 199 of the Motor Vehicles Act and Sections 125, 125(a), 125(b), and 281 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita have been filed.
Site inspection and CCTV footage analysis are underway.
Condition of Wife
Minal Patel, who was riding pillion with her husband, Dhurmil Patel, sustained significant injuries. She remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment. Reports indicate she has undergone surgeries for pelvic bone and leg injuries.
Prior Incidents and Legal Framework
The case falls under the purview of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which has replaced the Indian Penal Code. The Motor Vehicles Act governs road safety and licensing. The investigation aims to ascertain the facts surrounding the accident to ensure appropriate legal action.

There have been reports of videos surfacing on social media allegedly showing the accused minor and his friends performing stunts with luxury cars. Officials have instructed that the face of the minor be blurred in any circulated footage due to his age.
