Zach Lahn, a candidate backed by MAHA, has secured victory in Iowa's Republican gubernatorial primary, unseating the Donald Trump-endorsed incumbent, Randy Feenstra. The outcome, projecting a significant shift in voter preference, saw Feenstra concede to Lahn late Tuesday.

Feenstra's campaign had heavily leaned on a late endorsement from former President Trump, a strategy that ultimately failed to sway party voters. This loss marks a notable moment, as Feenstra had attempted to leverage Trump's backing in his closing campaign efforts. A strategist associated with Trump's political circle reportedly commented on Feenstra's prior narrow victory in his own district, underscoring the challenges faced. Feenstra's campaign also targeted Lahn, criticizing his investment in a company reportedly selling adult novelty items.
Lahn, in his victory speech, articulated a platform focused on economic fairness for Iowa farmers, pledging to challenge perceived monopolies and ensure equitable deals. The results were confirmed by NBC News projections.

Despite this primary outcome, individuals connected to the Republican National Committee denied that the results indicated a weakening of Trump's influence among voters. Alex Latcham, a veteran Trump campaign operative in Iowa, asserted that the outcome does not diminish the grassroots support Trump has cultivated in the state. All five Republican candidates in the primary reportedly ran campaigns aligned with pro-Trump messaging.
The general election will pit Lahn against Rob Sand, the Democratic nominee who advanced unopposed. Sand represents a unique element in Iowa's political landscape, being the sole Democrat to have previously achieved statewide success. Feenstra, despite possessing advantages such as substantial fundraising capabilities and support from prominent Iowa Republicans, including former Governor Terry Branstad, was unable to secure a win. Lahn's supporters celebrated his victory as the election results unfolded. Feenstra has now shifted his focus toward supporting Lahn's candidacy in the upcoming contest against Sand.
