CRITICAL LOSSES MOUNT AS INFERNO REDUCES HISTORIC BUILDING TO RUIN
More than 30 businesses have been irrevocably impacted by a massive fire that gutted a historic building in Glasgow city centre. The blaze, which is understood to have started in a vape shop on the ground floor, quickly consumed the entire structure on Union Street, leaving only a facade standing. No casualties were reported, but the financial and emotional toll on business owners is profound.

COLLAPSE AND DEVASTATION
The inferno raged on Sunday afternoon, requiring the deployment of over 250 firefighters. By Monday, the building, situated next to Glasgow Central Station, had largely collapsed. Fire crews continued to battle the remnants of the blaze, using aerial platforms to douse the smouldering remains. The destruction extends beyond the primary site, with another branch of Blue Lagoon on Argyle Street reportedly suffering smoke damage, and an office space on the third floor of a nearby Gordon Street building also ruined.

TRANSPORT DISRUPTION AND COMMUNITY RESPONSE
The proximity of the fire to Glasgow Central Station caused significant disruption. The station was closed on Sunday night, and train services were cancelled throughout Monday and Tuesday, with disruption anticipated for several more days. Amidst the wreckage, a community effort has emerged, with over £80,000 raised to support the affected businesses.

HISTORIC STRUCTURE UNDONE
The affected building was a prominent feature of the city centre, dating back to the 19th century. Witness accounts paint a grim picture, with business owners describing scenes of 'heartbreak' as they watched their livelihoods burn. The damage is so extensive that salvage of the building itself appears unlikely.

A multi-agency investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. The full economic impact, particularly on insurers, is still being assessed.
