Sudden Passing Announced Tuesday; Cause Undisclosed
Brandon Clarke, a veteran forward for the Memphis Grizzlies, has died at the age of 29. The news was confirmed by the team and his agency, Priority Sports, through separate statements released on Tuesday, May 12th. A specific cause of death has not been publicly disclosed.
Clarke, who had recently completed his seventh NBA season, all with the Grizzlies, played in only two games during the 2025-26 season due to calf and knee injuries. His passing comes just weeks after an arrest in Arkansas on charges including improper passing, drug possession, and fleeing.
Career and College Background
A former first-round draft pick out of Gonzaga, Clarke garnered significant recognition during his college career. He was named a third-team All-American in 2019 and helped lead the Bulldogs to the Elite Eight. He also earned WCC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Across his seven NBA seasons and 309 regular-season games, Clarke averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds. He also played 14 playoff games, averaging 10.7 points and 6.0 rebounds.
