The project, announced recently, centers on a hand-drawn pilot and signals a deliberate departure from prevalent digital techniques in the animation industry. This endeavor champions traditional artistry, aiming to deliver a visually unique experience rooted in Amano's iconic style.
The announcement was made in tandem with the formation of Yoshitaka Amano Inc., a Los Angeles-based entity intended to be the central hub for Amano's global ventures. This new company will encompass a broad spectrum of activities, including film and animation production, licensing, gallery exhibitions, artist management, and art events. The stated mission is to translate Amano's distinctive art and character designs into broadly recognized entertainment franchises, extending into collectibles and immersive experiences.
A special preview of the hand-drawn pilot is slated for debut at Anime Expo in Los Angeles on July 3rd. This event serves as a critical platform for showcasing the project's aesthetic and technical direction. Beyond the animation itself, a second edition of the original Deva Zan novel, featuring a new cover illustration by Amano, is also set for release.

Production for ZAN involves a reunion of key staff members from the classic anime studio Anime R, with a stated commitment to proving their continued relevance. The team, reportedly with over half of its members aged sixty and above, aims to demonstrate that seasoned artists are far from past their prime. TWIN PLANET Co., Ltd., a prominent Japanese IP production company, has been confirmed as an animation production partner for Yoshitaka Amano Inc.
The expanded AMANO Experience, a multisensory exhibition that has previously toured in Italy and Brazil, is also part of this broader initiative. The exhibition aims to create interactive environments, blending physical and digital elements, further solidifying Amano's art as an immersive brand. Amano's artistic legacy includes notable works such as the Vampire Hunter D novels and Sandman: The Dream Hunters.
