Alpine Ski Champion Tapped for Official Starter Role
Alexis Pinturault, a decorated French alpine ski champion, has been selected as the official starter for the inaugural Le Mans Classic Legend 2026. The event is slated to run from July 2nd to July 5th, 2026, at the historic Circuit des 24 Heures du Mans. Pinturault will flag off the race on Saturday, July 4th, at 4:00 PM.
"His presence highlights the bridges between high-level sport, mechanical innovation, and a culture of performance," stated Peter Auto, the organizer of Le Mans Classic.
This designation places Pinturault in a lineage of notable figures who have initiated the Le Mans Classic, including past starters like Didier Drogba, Rafael Nadal, and Felipe Massa. The choice of Pinturault underscores a perceived alignment between his own career trajectory and the event's focus.
Connections to High Performance and Precision
Pinturault's role as starter is framed by his long-standing association with luxury watchmaker Richard Mille, a partnership that began in 2014. This relationship is presented as a testament to shared values of "sporting excellence, precision, and the pursuit of performance." Pinturault has not only represented the brand but has also reportedly been involved in technical developments, subjecting the watches to the rigorous conditions of alpine skiing—namely, high speeds, altitudes, low temperatures, and the demand for pinpoint accuracy.
