Two teenagers are dead and five others injured following a shooting that erupted at Leinbach Park in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on Monday morning. Police described the incident as a "planned fight" between juveniles that escalated, resulting in gunfire. The shooting occurred around 10 a.m. near Jefferson Middle School.
Authorities have confirmed that the two deceased victims were a 16-year-old and a 17-year-old, both pronounced dead at the scene. The injured include a 14-year-old girl, a 15-year-old girl, a 17-year-old girl, an 18-year-old man, and a 19-year-old woman. Reports indicate multiple individuals discharged firearms during the event. Schools in the vicinity of the park were reportedly secure.
The motive behind the initial planned confrontation remains unclear, with police declining to provide specific details regarding the dispute. The incident unfolded in a suburban and residential area of Winston-Salem, a city historically linked to the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.
