Bengaluru-Based Firm Reconfigures Purchase Model for X-47 Crossover
Ultraviolette Automotive, a manufacturer situated in Bengaluru, has introduced "Battery Flex," a novel Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) ownership arrangement. This strategy separates the cost of the motorcycle's chassis from the battery, enabling a significantly reduced initial purchase price. Customers can now acquire the Ultraviolette X-47 crossover, starting at ₹1,49,000. This upfront cost represents an approximate 40% reduction compared to conventional ownership models. The battery itself is then financed through a separate monthly subscription, beginning at ₹2,499.

The core of this maneuver is to lower the financial barrier to entry for electric motorcycles, specifically the Ultraviolette X-47. By uncoupling the battery from the initial sale, Ultraviolette aims to make its performance-oriented electric vehicles more accessible. The monthly subscription fee for the battery is positioned as being comparable to, or even less than, the average monthly expenditure on petrol. This approach directly addresses a common apprehension regarding the upfront cost of electric vehicles.

Partnership and Pricing Realignment
The Battery Flex program has been established in collaboration with Ecofy, a finance entity specializing in electric vehicle solutions. This partnership underscores a broader industry trend towards innovative financing mechanisms to spur adoption.

"With a starting price of ₹1.5 lakh, riders gain access to better technology, features, and performance that outpaces every segment. With operating costs as low as ₹2499 per month, which is lesser than the average spends on petrol, we are redefining what affordability means in motorcycling.” - Narayan Subramaniam, CEO & Co-founder at Ultraviolette.
The pricing structure offers the Ultraviolette X-47 chassis for an initial outlay starting at ₹1,49,000, with the battery subscription commencing at ₹2,499 per month. Reports indicate a five-year warranty on the battery pack. The company asserts that this model makes "performance, technology-driven mobility more attainable and practical for riders across India."

Context and Technology
The Ultraviolette X-47 is characterized as a crossover motorcycle. Previous discussions surrounding the X-47 have highlighted its features, including what has been described as the "world’s first radar-integrated motorcycle." The company emphasizes its investment in research and development for battery technology, focusing on "uncompromised performance, safety, and longevity." This BaaS initiative is presented as a strategic move to accelerate electric vehicle adoption by enhancing financial accessibility and convenience.

"Battery technology sits at the core of every electric vehicle, and at Ultraviolette we have invested years of R&D to ensure our batteries deliver uncompromised performance, safety, and longevity." - Niraj Rajmohan, CTO & Co-founder at Ultraviolette.
The shift in ownership model arrives in the wake of the X-47's introduction, signaling a strategic adjustment to market penetration. Ultraviolette suggests that Battery Flex not only reduces upfront costs but also establishes new benchmarks for affordability and convenience in the performance electric mobility sector. The company's long-term objective appears to be the broader integration of sustainable technology within the personal transport landscape.
