Four Assam police commandos sustained injuries following a suspected assault on a police installation in the Jagun area of Tinsukia district. The incident, occurring around 2 AM Sunday, involved what reports describe as heavy firing and rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) shells directed at a Commando Battalion camp.

Security forces retaliated, engaging in a gunfight with the assailants. The injured personnel were transported to Assam Medical College and Hospital in Dibrugarh. Authorities have subsequently heightened alert levels in Tinsukia district and along inter-state borders. Joint search operations, involving the Indian Army and Assam Police, are underway, with operations extending into surrounding forest areas and potentially toward the Arunachal Pradesh border, given the proximity to Myanmar.

The outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) is the group authorities are pointing to, though official confirmation of their direct involvement is reportedly still pending. Initial reports from locals described automatic weapon fire and explosions consistent with grenades or RPGs.

The attack targeted the 4th Assam Police Commando Battalion camp at 10th Mile in Jagun. This region of Upper Assam, particularly Tinsukia, is noted as an area with a history of insurgency. The Paresh Baruah faction of ULFA-I is understood to be active in areas along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

The injured commandos have been identified as Robi Garg, Jimbus Marak, Debasish Bora, and Chittaranjan Mili. According to hospital officials, they are out of danger and in stable condition. Some reports indicate three of the four sustained grievous injuries. The operation to apprehend the militants may extend into neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh.
