MELBOURNE — A 22-year-old security guard, identified as a local resident of Mernda, was fatally stabbed at a train station on Saturday night, according to Victorian Police. Authorities allege the guard intervened in a scuffle, attempting to protect a 14-year-old boy.
Four teenagers, aged between 16 and 18, have been arrested in connection with the incident. Homicide detectives have charged a 17-year-old male from the Greater Geelong area and a 16-year-old male from the Whittlesea area with murder and armed robbery. Another 18-year-old man from Mill Park also faces charges of murder and armed robbery and is scheduled to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on March 8. A fourth suspect, a 17-year-old male from the City of Yarra, is under police guard at a hospital and has not yet been formally interviewed. The 14-year-old boy, reportedly the focus of the initial altercation, sustained a broken nose and has since been discharged from hospital.

The incident occurred in Mernda, a suburb of Melbourne. Details regarding the exact nature of the initial scuffle and the alleged robbery are still being processed by authorities. This event follows a period of varied crime reports in Melbourne, as indicated by recent headlines from 7News, which include unrelated incidents such as alleged sexual assaults and violent altercations. The charges laid against the teenagers suggest a serious criminal act, with murder and armed robbery being the primary accusations. The court date for one of the accused has been set for March 8.
