The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has announced a significant overhaul of its internal structure, appointing Nara Lokesh as the National Working President. This move, alongside the historic appointment of Dr Byreddy Shabari as the party’s first woman National General Secretary, suggests a strategic repositioning of leadership.
The newly formed committees include a 29-member Politburo, a 31-member National Committee, and a 185-member State Committee. These appointments underscore a clear emphasis on bringing forward a new generation of leaders within the party.
Dr Shabari will serve as a National General Secretary alongside MP Ram Mohan Naidu and Rajesh Kilaru. Palla Srinivas has been retained as the State President. The party’s new organisational framework reportedly includes a substantial representation from various social groups, with mention of specific percentages for Backward Classes (BC), Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Minorities in the committee compositions.

The party has also made a point of ensuring significant female participation, with 50 women included in the State Committee and broader representation across the Politburo and National Committees.
Leadership Transition
The elevation of Nara Lokesh, son of TDP chief and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, into the role of National Working President is widely interpreted as a move to solidify his position as a key figure in the party’s future leadership. This restructuring occurs as the TDP prepares for upcoming political challenges. The party's leadership, under N Chandrababu Naidu, has reportedly held extensive meetings to finalize these organisational changes.
Committee Structure Details
The national body is set to comprise three general secretaries, including Ram Mohan Naidu, Dr Shabari, and Rajesh Kilaru, along with 18 vice-presidents and 10 spokespersons. The state unit will have seven general secretaries, 16 vice-presidents, and 14 spokespersons, alongside various zonal coordinators and secretaries. Reports also mention a 26-member Politburo and a three-member Political Bureau of India, though some details on committee sizes appear to vary slightly across reports.
