Sara Gore, a familiar face on NBC New York’s “New York Live” and “Open House,” has revealed her diagnosis with breast cancer. The announcement was made live on air Thursday, April 30, 2026. Gore will be temporarily stepping away from her on-air responsibilities to undergo treatment, which will include surgery.
The emotional disclosure comes despite Gore being aware of a family history of breast cancer and having a high-risk designation. She described the diagnosis as an "emotional blow" and acknowledged that "you are never ready," even when anticipating such news. The broadcast journalist, aged 49, shared her personal health update with colleagues and viewers, expressing gratitude for the support she has received.
Gore's decision to step away signifies a pause in her prominent hosting roles on the network's lifestyle and real estate programs. Her television career includes extensive work as a presenter.

The broadcaster's journey into television followed a diverse culinary path, including roles as a personal chef and food columnist. She also worked with acclaimed chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten. Beyond her media work, Gore holds a license as a real estate salesperson.
Her mother and sister have both previously battled breast cancer. The World Health Organization identifies several factors contributing to breast cancer risk, such as age, obesity, alcohol and tobacco consumption, and a family history of the disease. In some cases, individuals with a strong family history may undergo genetic testing, including for BRCA gene mutations, which are known to increase susceptibility to certain cancers.
