The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) state leadership is reportedly considering Sobha Surendran for the Palakkad Assembly seat, a decision that appears to have created internal friction, evidenced by the conspicuous absence of the district BJP chief, Prasanth Sivan, from her campaign launch events. This absence has amplified discussions about potential discontent within the party ranks and Sivan's purported dissatisfaction over being overlooked for the constituency nomination.
Surendran commenced her campaign activities in Palakkad on Sunday, a move made even before the official candidate list was unveiled by the party. Sivan's non-appearance was noted not only at Surendran's press interaction later that day but also during her earlier visit to the residence of Sreenivasan, a slain Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader in Palakkad. The recurring absence of the district president from programs involving Surendran has inadvertently redirected the spotlight from the campaign's strategic objectives towards the party's internal dynamics.

The political landscape in Palakkad is already intensely competitive, with all major political fronts actively seeking voter allegiance. Surendran's campaign initiation was framed as an effort to project an image of unity and to energize party workers and undecided voters. However, the persistent detachment of Prasanth Sivan has become a focal point, raising questions about cohesion within the BJP's Palakkad unit. Observers suggest that the coming weeks will be pivotal in determining how the party leadership addresses these internal challenges and whether the campaign can regain its intended focus and momentum.
During a media interaction, Surendran asserted that there were no internal disagreements, despite the visible sidelining of the district president. She began her campaign by offering prayers at the Karnakiyamman Temple, a location described as a BJP stronghold. In the previous election, the Palakkad seat was secured by Shafi Parambil, who won by a margin of 17,483 votes, obtaining 57,559 votes against Surendran's 40,076. The party's state leadership is reportedly exploring Surendran as a candidate for Palakkad, particularly after Sivan's name was omitted from consideration. The BJP high command is expected to engage in efforts to mend any apparent rifts and foster a unified campaign strategy in the immediate future.
