Recent days have seen public pronouncements and implied criticisms among figures within the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), hinting at internal tensions regarding leadership and organizational direction.
Youth Wing Denounces 'Factionalism' in Kerala
The NCP(SP) youth wing, identified as the Nationalist Youth Congress (NYC), has publicly condemned what they termed a 'factional meeting' in Elathur, Kerala. This wing asserted that the prevailing sentiment among Left Democratic Front (LDF) activists in the constituency favors a change in candidate. They specifically proposed that Mr. Saseendran should voluntarily withdraw from contesting and instead endorse LDF district convener Mukkom Mohammed as the nominee. The NYC leadership pointed to Mr. Saseendran's multiple electoral victories from Elathur and other seats, arguing that contesting eight times presents an ethically and politically questionable stance for any leader.
Internal Sparring Over Party Functioning
Further signs of discord surfaced during the party's foundation day event in Ahmednagar. Rohit Pawar and state party chief Jayant Patil exchanged veiled remarks that reportedly caused unease among party members. Rohit Pawar, addressing prior public commentary on organizational matters, clarified that his statements were not directed at any specific individual but rather aimed at the party's overall operational framework.

Separately, Rohit Pawar claimed that 18-19 Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from Ajit Pawar's faction of the NCP are considering a shift and have reportedly been in communication with his group. Pawar also voiced criticism regarding the perceived inadequacy of the party's frontal organizations in addressing issues like the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test (NEET), emphasizing the need for more robust advocacy. However, he acknowledged the influence of the ongoing Budget Session on any potential decisions concerning returning to political alliances.
Patil's Challenge to Critics
In response to calls for a leadership overhaul within the NCP(SP), Jayant Patil issued a direct challenge. Speaking at a party meeting in Mumbai, he stated, "It is easy to speak, but difficult to get a good person for the job." Patil further invited detractors to present booth-wise electoral data to demonstrate their contributions. He declared his readiness to resign within eight days if presented with such evidence of their electoral effectiveness. Some leaders had indeed put forward proposals for granting additional responsibilities to younger MLAs, including Rohit Pawar and Rohit Patil.
