Paige Shiver, a former staffer at the University of Michigan, has publicly stated that the athletic department did not provide adequate protection amid her relationship with Sherrone Moore, a former Wolverines coach. Shiver described the situation as an "open secret" within the department.
The core assertion from Shiver is that leadership figures at Michigan were aware of her relationship with Moore, yet failed to implement measures that would have safeguarded her position and well-being. She indicated that Moore employed manipulative tactics when she attempted to disengage from the relationship.
Recent accounts reveal that Shiver reported feeling endangered, specifically recounting an incident in December where she feared for her life when Moore entered her apartment. Moore, according to body camera footage, did not dispute the existence of the relationship with police but contested claims of breaking into the apartment or issuing threats.

An investigation by Michigan into both Moore and Shiver occurred in the fall, during which both parties reportedly denied the relationship. Despite this, Shiver has since stated that the subsequent disciplinary actions against Moore were insufficient. Moore was sentenced last month to 18 months of probation, which includes a prohibition on any contact with Shiver.
Further complicating the narrative, Shiver was promoted to executive assistant to Moore – who was then offensive coordinator – as the relationship unfolded. Shiver voiced her belief that Moore’s punishment should have been more severe. Moore has since been elevated to the head coaching position.
