CRITICAL INJURIES FOLLOW FAILED HEIST
A man remains in critical condition with severe facial injuries following an alleged attempt to detonate an automated teller machine at Melbourne's Queen Victoria Market. The incident, which occurred around 2:45 AM on Victoria Street, involved three individuals reportedly using explosives to access the machine. Police allege the trio fled the scene on foot, leaving the injured party to be discovered shortly after on Peel Street. He was subsequently transported to hospital under police guard.
Victoria Police stated that three individuals were observed on security footage near the ATM. The Arson and Explosives Squad, represented by Detective Inspector Chris Murray, is reportedly seeking the whereabouts of the two other alleged participants in the incident.
EXPLOSIVE ATTEMPT AT QUEEN VICTORIA MARKET
The alleged attempt to breach the ATM transpired in the early hours of May 13, 2026. Emergency services, including Advanced Life Support paramedics, were dispatched to the scene around 3:00 AM. The injured man's condition is described as serious, with injuries sustained to his face. His presence in hospital is under police supervision, with the expectation of future interviews.
