CRIME BRANCH NETS TRIO IN LATEST FRAUD
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has apprehended three individuals, two of them women, in connection with a significant job scam. The group is accused of defrauding over 100 job seekers by promising positions within central and state government departments and nationalised banks. To lend credence to their claims, the accused allegedly impersonated officials and conducted interviews at upscale hotels. This recent action by the CCB follows a pattern of ongoing investigations into similar fraudulent schemes.
The alleged operation involved fake appointment letters, forged political connections, and staged training programmes. A woman, purportedly acting as the general secretary of the KPCC Mahila unit, is central to the scheme, having allegedly duped more than 20 job aspirants of nearly ₹5.30 crore. Promises included positions in departments such as Water Resources. Candidates were reportedly issued forged appointment letters to create the illusion of successful recruitment.

POLITICAL CONNECTIONS BRANDISHED
Accusations suggest the perpetrators leveraged political influence, with individuals claiming high-ranking positions within the KPCC and displaying photographs with ministers and senior bureaucrats. This tactic aimed to build trust and convince victims of their ability to secure government jobs. The sums extorted range from ₹5 lakh to ₹7 lakh per aspirant, with the total amount allegedly collected by one scheme reaching approximately ₹4 crore from around 40 individuals.
WIDER PATTERN OF DECEPTION UNCOVERED
This case is not an isolated incident. Several other reports detail similar job rackets apprehended by the CCB. In one instance, a couple was arrested in March 2026 for involvement in a fake government jobs racket. Earlier, in November 2023, the CCB arrested a trio for orchestrating interviews in star hotels to swindle job hopefuls.
HISTORICAL PRECEDENTS AND ESCALATING AMOUNTS
The financial scale of these scams appears to be increasing. A report from January 2026 details a scheme where aspirants were defrauded of approximately ₹5.30 crore. This follows a case from April 2024, where a gang of four was arrested for defrauding a woman of ₹4.10 crore with a fake offer for the Karnataka Public Service Commission. Earlier, in September 2021, a woman was arrested for cheating 35 job aspirants of ₹1.18 crore. Two gangs were apprehended in March 2022 for defrauding job seekers of nearly ₹4 crore, and another duo was arrested in July 2022 for cheating youngsters of over ₹2 crore with promises of jobs abroad.

OTHER NOTABLE CASES
Beyond direct job placement fraud, the CCB has also investigated other forms of financial deception. In May 2025, the CCB booked the chairman and directors of FIIT-JEE Chennai for an alleged ₹4-crore cheating case related to promised academic services. These instances, while distinct in nature, highlight a broader trend of alleged fraudulent activities being addressed by law enforcement agencies.
