Goshen, IN - The Goshen College Art and Design Department has been actively engaged in its Eric Yake Kenagy Visiting Artist lecture series. Recent events include presentations that have drawn attention from the college community, with a particular focus on exhibits featuring senior art students and discussions surrounding artistic practice.
The Hershberger Art Gallery, located within the Goshen College Music Center, has served as a venue for these artistic explorations. Earlier this week, Mr. Keiser's AP Art Class visited the gallery to view an exhibit showcasing college seniors' work. The department's art program offers both major and minor concentrations, designed to accommodate diverse artistic interests and professional aspirations.
Past Lectures and Community Engagement
The college's commitment to intellectual and cultural exchange extends beyond student exhibitions. The 2024-25 school year's lecture series has featured notable figures. In a previous engagement, Dr. Wendsler Nosie Sr., former chairman of the San Carlos Apache Tribe and a professor at the American University of Sovereign Nations, was scheduled to speak.
Additionally, the series has included lectures like the Beechy Peace, Justice and Reconciliation Lecture on October 12, tied to the Frank and Betty Jo Yoder Public Affairs Lecture. The program also noted a forthcoming presentation by Maria Tomasula, professor emerita and faculty fellow at the University of Notre Dame, as part of the Eric Yake Kenagy Visiting Artist lecture series.
Intercultural Art Installation Projects
A project titled "Du Quoditien" has been highlighted in connection with the Eric Yake Kenagy Visiting Artist program. This initiative involved participants from institutions such as the Studies in Arts and Cultures Program at Université Abdou Moumouni in Niamey, Niger, and the School of Art + Design at Western Carolina University.

During "Du Quoditien" sessions, individuals were invited to sit for portraits and present a personal, hand-held object for documentation. The culmination of these efforts resulted in a large-scale, 40-panel artwork installation at the U.S. Embassy in Niamey, Niger. This project spanned two-day sessions in November 2018 and January 2019, underscoring an engagement with international and diverse university communities.
The Hershberger Art Gallery at Goshen College, located at 1700 S Main St, Goshen, IN 46526, has been the site for such exhibitions.
