RESIDENTS SHOT IN APPARENTLY TARGETED INCIDENTS
Security footage shows two masked individuals at a Gold Coast residence just prior to a man sustaining a gunshot wound to the elbow early Tuesday morning. Police were alerted to the Macquarie Avenue, Molendinar home around 4:30 AM by reports of a loud noise. Officers discovered a 38-year-old male with the injury and are currently seeking the firearm used in the incident. Detective Inspector Mark Mooney stated that the investigation suggests a targeted attack, but authorities have ruled out any organized crime involvement and have yet to identify the intruders. The injured man is reportedly not cooperating with the police investigation.
PARALLEL VIOLENCE UNDERSCORES AREA CONCERNS
These events unfold against a backdrop of other recent violent incidents on the Gold Coast. Just days prior, on March 6, 2025, a man was fatally shot by police following a confrontation that involved a reported firearm and a stolen vehicle. Earlier in the week, a separate incident saw a 21-year-old man shot in the leg and hand in Parklands, an event police also described as targeted.

WIDER PATTERN OF CONFLICT SUGGESTED
The Gold Coast has seen a number of serious incidents in recent times. A man was charged with murder following a stabbing that resulted in his son's death in Maudsland on Monday evening. The prevalence of such events, including a reported break-in spree across the northern part of the region and masked gunmen on the run after a Molendinar shooting, contribute to a climate of unease. While police assert there is no ongoing threat to the wider community in the latest shooting, the accumulation of violent occurrences prompts closer examination of local safety dynamics.
