DOMESTIC CALL IGNITES VIOLENCE
A Fresno police officer sustained gunshot wounds Saturday night after responding to a domestic violence call in Southwest Fresno. The incident, which also saw the rescue of a woman and child, has led to an ongoing search for a 56-year-old male suspect.
Authorities were initially dispatched around 6:30 p.m. to a residence on a report of domestic violence involving a husband and wife. Police indicated the suspect had threatened to shoot his wife. A subsequent return to the home around 9:30 p.m. coincided with the suspect's vehicle arriving. Upon officers exiting their patrol car, shots were fired. The officer was hit multiple times in what police are describing as an apparent ambush. Investigations are underway, with law enforcement exploring potential locations where the suspect may be hiding.
PREVIOUS DOMESTIC VIOLENCE INCIDENT
The search for the suspect comes amidst an ongoing investigation into a separate domestic violence incident from June 28, 2025, involving Martin Campos, 31. In that case, police bodycam footage captured a shootout. Campos is accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend and pursuing her, ramming her vehicle while she was with their three-year-old child. The victim provided live updates to police during the ordeal. The pursuit concluded when a police sergeant intervened, leading to shots fired at the victim's car and the sergeant returning fire. Campos faced charges including attempted murder and child endangerment.
