Fresno, CA - Officer Jim Young and his Belgian Malinois partner, Zeus, have officially concluded their service with the Fresno Police Department. The pair, a fixture in the department's K-9 unit for years, marked their final shift together earlier this week. Young, a 27-year veteran of the department, spent a substantial portion of his tenure working alongside canine partners.
Zeus, an 8-year-old Belgian Malinois, and Officer Young completed their final shift together, marking the end of a significant chapter for the Fresno Police Department's K-9 unit. Their departure closes out decades of public service for Young, who was also recognized for his role in mentoring and training new K-9 teams.
The retirement ceremony was described as a quiet affair, reflecting the consistent, rather than singularly dramatic, nature of their work. While Young handled the administrative duties and radio communications, Zeus maintained the focused demeanor that characterized their operational history.

This event follows the recent passing of retired K-9 Gunner, another member of the department's canine force, who had also been part of the Young family. Gunner's career was marked by community engagement, including school demonstrations, and he continued to enjoy family life in retirement.
