Wayne County prosecutors have announced that DK Metcalf, a wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will not face criminal charges following an incident with a fan at Ford Field in December. The decision, made after an "extensive review of all the relevant evidence," means the legal matter initiated by the altercation has reached a conclusion on the criminal front. The prosecutor's office determined that charges would not be issued, citing the findings of their investigation.
The fan involved, identified as Ryan Kennedy, reportedly approached Metcalf, holding a jersey, and allegedly said something to the player as Metcalf neared the stands. Prosecutors state that Metcalf then grabbed Kennedy's shirt and pushed him back. This interaction was captured on national television.
Metcalf's attorney, Mitch Schuster, expressed approval of the decision, stating they "applaud the decision and are thankful for the hard work and thorough investigation that led to this just result." Schuster also indicated a continued commitment to the civil legal proceedings.

Kennedy himself did not report any injuries and did not seek medical attention at the game. The investigation by the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office included reviewing video footage from multiple angles and interviewing security staff and other fans present near the incident.
This legal conclusion arrives as Kennedy is also pursuing a civil lawsuit against Metcalf, with a status conference scheduled for May 5th. The fan is reportedly seeking $100 million in damages. Metcalf's legal team has alluded to a counterclaim, suggesting Kennedy's conduct was "hate-fueled."
The incident occurred during a Steelers game against the Detroit Lions in December. While the league did not suspend Metcalf, he was sidelined for the final two regular-season games of that season.
