Wayne County Prosecutors announced today that DK Metcalf, wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, will not face criminal charges stemming from an altercation with a fan at Detroit's Ford Field in December. The decision comes after an "extensive review of all the relevant evidence," according to a statement from the prosecutor's office.
The fan, identified as Ryan Kennedy, had approached Metcalf near the stands, allegedly to get an autograph on a jersey. During the brief interaction, Metcalf is described as having grabbed Kennedy's shirt and pushed him back. Kennedy, who did not appear to be injured or seek medical attention at the game, is reportedly pursuing a civil lawsuit against Metcalf.
Metcalf's attorney, Mitch Schuster, expressed approval of the prosecutor's decision, stating they "applaud the decision and are thankful for the hard work and thorough investigation that led to this just result." Schuster indicated a continued commitment to the civil legal proceedings on behalf of his client.

Reports suggest that Metcalf has alleged Kennedy used racial and misogynistic slurs during the encounter, claims which Kennedy has consistently denied. The investigation involved reviewing video footage, interviewing security personnel, and speaking with fans present near the incident. Despite the criminal charges not proceeding, Metcalf was previously suspended for two games by the league. A civil lawsuit status conference is scheduled for May 5.
