Dianna Russini, an NFL reporter for The Athletic, has resigned from her position. This move follows an internal investigation launched by The Athletic's parent company, The New York Times, after photos surfaced showing Russini with New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel at an Arizona resort. The images, published by the New York Post, depicted the two individuals at a Sedona hotel prior to NFL owners meetings that commenced on March 29.
The departure comes amidst heightened scrutiny over the relationship between Russini and Vrabel, both of whom are married.
The Athletic's Executive Editor, Steven Ginsberg, confirmed Russini's resignation in a memo to staff. Russini stated in her resignation letter that The Athletic had initially supported her following the initial report. However, the situation escalated, leading to the internal inquiry by The New York Times.

Speculation and commentary have intensified following the emergence of the photos. Some observers have pointed to older videos of Russini discussing her marriage and interviewing Vrabel as further fueling conjecture. Russini, in her statement, defended her journalistic integrity, asserting that she has "covered the NFL with professionalism and dedication throughout my career, and I stand behind every story I have ever published."
The fallout has also reportedly led to criticism from some staffers within The Athletic regarding the organization's handling of the controversy. The Patriots organization, when questioned, has indicated that it is "business as usual" for Coach Vrabel.
