Assets Frozen, Priya Kapur Restrained in Inheritance Row
The Delhi High Court has ordered the preservation of businessman Sunjay Kapur's considerable estate, estimated at Rs 30,000 crore, granting interim relief to his children from his second marriage to actor Karisma Kapoor. The court has barred Kapur's third wife, Priya Sachdev Kapur, from selling, transferring, or dealing with his assets. This includes freezing foreign bank accounts and cryptocurrency holdings.
The court's interim order comes amidst allegations by Kiaan and Samaira Kapoor, Karisma Kapoor's children, who claim their stepmother, Priya Kapur, has forged a will and submitted an incomplete inventory of assets. This inventory allegedly omits valuable items such as polo horses and luxury watches. The court has placed the onus on Priya Kapur to address these suspicions surrounding the will's authenticity.
"The onus, the court said, is on Priya Kapur to dispel suspicions over the will."
Further, the High Court has restrained Priya Kapur from altering shareholding patterns in Sunjay Kapur's Indian companies. However, the court clarified that the current interim order does not extend to properties located outside India.

Background and Family Involvement
Sunjay Kapur, who died in London last June, was the chairman of the auto components firm Sona Comstar. The legal battle involves not only Priya Kapur and Karisma Kapoor's children but also Sunjay Kapur's mother, Rani Kapur, who has also reportedly raised doubts about the will's validity.
Priya Kapur has denied all allegations, asserting the genuineness of the will. Her counsel argued that Karisma Kapoor's children have already received their share from a family trust, amounting to Rs 1,900 crore. The children, however, are asserting their claim as immediate heirs to a portion of the estate, including movable and immovable assets, demat and bank accounts, artworks, and crypto investments.
The court noted that a prima facie case exists in favor of protecting the estate, observing that the trial might take time. This interim injunction aims to ensure the estate remains intact until a final decision is reached in the dispute. The situation has drawn reactions from within the family, with Kareena Kapoor and Sunjay Kapur's sister, Mandhira Kapur, reportedly welcoming the court's order.
