The Cincinnati Reds have placed catcher Jose Trevino on the 10-day injured list due to a thoracic spine strain. Simultaneously, the club has designated Christian Encarnacion-Strand for assignment, a move that clears a spot on the 40-man roster. These roster adjustments come as the Reds prepare to conclude a four-game series against the Miami Marlins on Thursday.
Trevino's ailment, described as a strain that "locks up on him," prompted an immediate IL placement. He last appeared in a game on April 4th. Encarnacion-Strand's designation for assignment signals a significant shift for the player once considered a promising slugging prospect, leaving his future with the team uncertain pending the waiver process.

To fill the vacated roster spots, the Reds have called up P.J. Higgins, a catcher-infielder, from their Triple-A affiliate in Louisville. Higgins is slated to be in the starting lineup for Thursday's series finale against the Marlins, with manager Terry Francona confirming his readiness to catch. Trevino is scheduled to undergo further testing and an MRI on his back in Cincinnati on Thursday.
