Winged Wanderer Wreaks Havoc
BANGKOK – A series of incidents involving ostriches navigating Thai roadways has captured public attention, painting a peculiar picture of avian escapades. In the most recent event, a pet ostrich named B1 took an unscheduled detour alongside vehicular traffic on a busy highway near Pattaya. The bird was eventually apprehended approximately 15 kilometers from its home at a local cat cafe.
"The ostrich, named B1, was finally corralled around 15 kilometres (nine miles) from its pen in resort town Pattaya, said the animal's owner, Itsara Boriboon."
The owner, Itsara Boriboon, stated that employees at his establishment believe the ostrich was spooked by noise from a construction material delivery truck. B1 was safely returned to its enclosure.
Roadblock Birds
This recent episode echoes similar occurrences. In 2021, an ostrich from Phon Prachuap Farm in Chon Buri disrupted traffic along Suk Prayun Road, creating a kilometer-long backlog of cars and motorbikes. A rescue team managed to capture the bird in a parking lot outside a shopping center.

Another filmed encounter from 2014 shows an ostrich freely weaving through vehicles, including cars and motorbikes, on Teparak Road in the Bang Phli district of Samut Prakan Province. The origin of this bird remained unclear at the time.
These avian disruptions highlight an unusual intersection of wildlife and urban infrastructure, prompting questions about animal containment and public safety. The precise motivations behind these feathered fugitives' highway sprints remain speculative.
