PUBLIC DISCLOSURE OF GRIEF VIA TEXT MESSAGES
Cher Lloyd has announced the death of her father, Darren. The singer shared intimate details of her mourning process, including text message exchanges with her father, to her social media followers. She stated she has "never felt pain like this."
The public revelation came as Lloyd had previously expressed deep concern for her father's health. Multiple reports from April and May 2020 detailed his hospitalizations, with Lloyd describing him as "seriously unwell." At the time, she noted the difficulty of being unable to visit him in the hospital due to then-current restrictions, describing the situation as "scary." Her father was known to have pre-existing health conditions, a fact that amplified her anxieties during the pandemic.
A PATTERN OF HEALTH CONCERNS AND FAMILY TIES
Lloyd's father, Darren, had been hospitalized on at least two occasions during the COVID-19 lockdown period in 2020. These events coincided with Lloyd's own reflections on her public life and personal vulnerabilities. She had spoken about how the intense scrutiny she faced from a young age, beginning at 16 on 'The X Factor', had made her more guarded.

The singer's close relationship with her father has been publicly visible for years. In 2011, at the age of 17, Lloyd got a tattoo on her right hand featuring the word "Daddy" alongside a pink heart, a direct tribute to him. She also has a tattoo dedicated to her mother, Dina, on her left arm. Lloyd, who has two daughters, Delilah-Rae and another child born after 2023, has spoken about isolating with her family during difficult times, emphasizing the importance of parental support.
BACKGROUND AND EARLIER PUBLIC STRUGGLES
Lloyd's journey in the public eye has been marked by significant personal challenges. She has previously discussed experiencing postnatal depression after the birth of her second daughter in 2023, a period where she suffered from distressing visions and was unable to sleep or eat. Furthermore, she has been vocal about the negative impact her early career on 'The X Factor' had on her mental health, describing being "painted as a villain" and receiving antidepressants at 16.
