Barbra Streisand will not attend the Cannes Film Festival’s closing ceremony to receive her honorary Palme d’Or due to a knee injury. The festival organizers confirmed on Sunday that a tribute to the singer-actor will still proceed despite her absence.
The singer, described by festival director Thierry Frémaux as "a dazzling actress, an unparalleled singer, a force of nature," is recovering on doctor's orders and expressed regret at missing the event.
Streisand conveyed her deep honor for the award and her anticipation of celebrating the films and colleagues at the 79th edition of the festival. She also noted her fondness for France, a place she has "always loved."
The festival, which concludes later this week, has a history of presenting honorary Palme d’Or awards. This year, Peter Jackson and John Travolta were also recipients of the honor. Travolta’s presentation preceded the premiere of his directorial debut, "Propeller One-Way Night Coach."

Streisand’s planned appearance marked her Croisette debut, as none of her films had previously screened at Cannes. The festival’s statement highlighted her role as an artist who initiates projects reflecting her identity and shares them globally. The closing ceremony, where the award for best film will also be announced, is scheduled for May 23.
