FIFA is orchestrating a continental launch for the 2026 World Cup, with a series of opening ceremonies spread across Mexico, Canada, and the United States. This marks an unprecedented approach, featuring three distinct events to usher in the tournament.
The opening matches are scheduled for June 11 and 12, with ceremonies preceding the games in each host nation. Additionally, special ceremonies are planned for July 4 in Houston and Philadelphia, coinciding with the United States' 250th anniversary. This dual focus aims to align the global sporting event with America's Semiquincentennial.
Musical Tributes Across North America
The musical accompaniment for these events features a diverse array of global artists. In Mexico City, ahead of the June 11 match between Mexico and South Africa, performers are expected to include Maná, Alejandro Fernández, Belinda, Los Ángeles Azules, and Tyla.
For the United States' opening ceremony on June 12 in Los Angeles, before the match against Paraguay, a lineup of prominent figures is slated to perform. This includes Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA (of Blackpink), Rema, and Tyla. DJ Sanjoy is also expected to appear during the Los Angeles event.

The Canadian leg of the opening festivities, also on June 12 in Toronto, will feature performances by Michael Bublé, Alessia Cara, and Alanis Morissette, preceding the match between Canada and Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Instead, FIFA is opting for a multi-location strategy, with celebrations commencing on June 11 in Mexico City and continuing on June 12 in both Toronto and Los Angeles. Fans attending the Los Angeles ceremony are encouraged to arrive early, as stadium activities are set to begin 90 minutes before the official kickoff. The tournament itself is scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19 across North America.
