Heroism at Riomar Beach Unveils Fugitive
A Florida woman, identified only as Belinda, performed a lifesaving act at Riomar Beach on March 24, rescuing a man struggling in the ocean. Unbeknownst to her at the time, the individual she aided was Jesse Scott Ellis, a fugitive wanted in connection with a double homicide. Belinda recounted that she heard the man screaming for help and, without hesitation, entered the water to assist him. She guided him toward shore, instructing him to float on his back. The rescuer stated that had she known his identity or the circumstances, she would have contacted authorities immediately.

"Get on your back and let the waves carry you, you can do it, come on," Belinda told WPBF 25 News, recalling her words to the struggling swimmer.
Upon reaching safety, the man, later identified as Ellis, reportedly expressed exhaustion and a desire for a "long vacation." Ellis is now wanted by authorities.

Authorities' Pursuit and Public Warning
Vero Beach Police Chief David Currey confirmed that surveillance footage played a role in identifying Ellis as a person of interest. Authorities have issued a warning, advising the public not to approach Jesse Scott Ellis, as he remains at large. The investigation into the double homicide continues, with Ellis being a primary focus.

Background of the Case
The double homicide involves the alleged killings of Ellis's estranged wife, Stacie Mason, and her alleged romantic partner, Danny Ooley. Reports suggest Mason and Ellis were in the process of separating and moving toward divorce. Mason and Ooley were reportedly employed by the Indian River County’s public works department.

In a separate, tragic incident reported around the same timeframe, Ryan Jennings, 46, drowned off Juno Beach while saving his two children from dangerous rip currents. This incident, while distinct, highlights the perils of the Florida coastline during the same period.
