UConn men's basketball guard Solo Ball will miss the entire 2026-27 season after undergoing wrist surgery, the university announced Monday, April 20th. Ball will utilize a medical redshirt, intending to return to the court for the 2027-28 season.
The absence of Ball, a two-time All-Big East selection and key starter for the Huskies over the past two seasons, creates a significant void. He has been a consistent offensive force, averaging 13.6 points per game over that span and ranking 10th in program history with 199 career 3-pointers.
Head coach Dan Hurley commented on the situation, stating, "Solo is a true Husky and a champion who would do anything to be out on the court."
Roster Adjustments Amidst Ball's Absence
While Ball's injury removes a prominent player, UConn's roster for the upcoming season includes several key pieces. Starting point guard Silas Demary Jr. and versatile player Jayden Ross are expected to return. The team has also bolstered its ranks with transfers Nikolas Khamenia (Duke) and Najai Hines (Seton Hall), alongside top-40 recruits Colben Landrew and Junior County. Freshman standout Braylon Mullins, who had been projected as a top-20 NBA draft selection, has also confirmed his return to Storrs.

Ball's return is anticipated to be a significant boost for the Huskies' future campaigns, with an aim to solidify his standing as one of the top guards in the nation and cement his legacy at UConn.
Context of Ball's Recent Performance and Injury History
Ball's statistical contributions have been notable, including earning All-Big East second-team honors as the Huskies reached the national championship game. His performance in that championship game was impacted by a sprained left foot sustained in the national semifinal against Illinois, limiting his minutes in the title game. His 3-point efficiency saw a dip in his junior season compared to his sophomore year, though he remains one of two Huskies to average at least two made threes per game.
