Thiruvananthapuram region has reasserted its command over the CBSE Class XII examinations, marking its top position nationally for the reported period. This recent achievement, announced Wednesday, places the region, which encompasses schools in Kerala and Lakshadweep, significantly ahead of the all-India pass rate.
The Thiruvananthapuram region posted a 95.62% pass rate in the Class XII exams, a substantial lead over the national average of 85.20%. This comes as 40,973 out of 43,852 students from 699 schools within the region successfully passed. The results were accessible via official CBSE websites, Digilocker, and the Umang mobile app.
Consistent Performance Across Levels
Local schools within Thiruvananthapuram have also demonstrated strong outcomes in both Class XII and Class X examinations, with numerous institutions reporting high pass rates and individual student distinctions.
St. Thomas Central School, Mukkolakkal, saw a significant portion of its students achieve high marks. In Class X, 225 out of 263 students earned distinction, while in Class XII, 284 of 344 students secured distinction. The previous year, 205 out of 263 students achieved distinction in Class X, with 181 out of 292 securing distinction in Class XII.
Saraswathi Vidyalaya, Vattiyurkavu, reported Neha Anoop achieving 99.2% in Class XII Humanities.
Viswabharathy Public School, Neyyattinkara, had all 250 students pass their examinations.
Jawahar Public School, Edava, saw 119 out of 147 students secure distinction in their exams.
MGM Model School, Varkala, had Adityaraj G. among its high performers.
Loyola School, Sreekaryam, saw Vaiga Iyer V. excel.
Cordova Public School, Ambalathara, recognized Nasrin Fathima S. for her achievements.
Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Naruvamoodu, highlighted Shreya Mahesh R.'s success.
Sree Chitra Thirunal Residential Central School, Karakonam, reported 45 out of 72 students achieving distinction in Class X.

The Thiruvananthapuram region has a documented history of academic success in CBSE examinations. Reports from previous years indicate a sustained high performance, with some sources suggesting a decade-long reign at the top for the region in CBSE board exams.

In May 2024, the region recorded a Class XII pass percentage of 99.91%, with Kerala specifically at 99.79%. For Class X in the same period, the region's pass percentage stood at 99.75%.
Previously, in July 2021, Amrithasree from Christ Nagar HSS, Thiruvallam, topped the Science stream with 99.6%, while Deepika D.P. led Commerce with 98.6%.
St. Thomas Central School, Mukkolakkal, also featured prominently in 2021, with Abhimanyu S.V. taking the top spot in Science (99.2%), Ananya Venu in Commerce (98.4%), and Sharan Harish in Humanities (99.4%).
A former education minister of Kerala, Prof C. Raveendranath, has commented on the academic environment, suggesting that students in the state face considerable "social pressure to study."
The reporting also indicates a slight gender-based performance disparity in the most recent Class XII results, with girls achieving a higher pass rate (97.22%) compared to boys (93.91%). The overall pass percentage for the Thiruvananthapuram region in the latest Class XII results was 95.62%, a decrease from 99.32% in the preceding year. Despite this dip, the region's performance remains robust when compared to the national average.
