Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy officiated the 'bhoomi pooja' for the redevelopment of the Sri Kaleshwara Mukteshwaraswamy temple in Jayashankar-Bhupalapally district on Monday. The project, estimated at ₹198 crore, is part of a broader state government initiative to revive temples along the Godavari river.
The Chief Minister's visit coincided with ongoing concerns and inspections regarding the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) barrages, specifically the Lakshmi Barrage at Medigadda, where foundation stones were also laid for a new bus station costing ₹3.70 crore.
Temple and Infrastructure Works Inaugurated
Reddy, accompanied by Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy and other officials, participated in rituals at the temple, known as Dakshina Kashi. The redevelopment project, detailed by the Endowments Commissioner Hanumantha Rao, aims to revive temples along the Godavari river course from Basar to Bhadrachalam. Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy indicated that the government intends to scientifically and transparently address repairs and restoration of three KLIS barrages.

Barrage Inspection and Project Context
The Chief Minister's itinerary also included an inspection of the Medigadda barrage, a key component of the Kaleshwaram project, which has faced structural issues. Previous reports indicate that decisions regarding the project's design and engineering were attributed to engineers based on technical reports, as stated by sources when former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) appeared before a commission last year. The Kaleshwaram project itself has been a subject of discussion regarding its financial aspects and engineering choices.
