Eight children, seven of them believed to be his own, were killed in a Shreveport, Louisiana shooting early Sunday morning. The gunman, identified as 31-year-old Shamar Elkins, was later killed by officers following a pursuit. The incident, described by authorities as a 'domestic disturbance', also left two women critically wounded. The ages of the child victims ranged from 1 to approximately 14 years old.
Elkins, a former National Guard member, reportedly opened fire across multiple residences. Police were alerted to the situation shortly before 6:00 AM Sunday, discovering the children deceased within a home. It appears many of the young victims were shot while asleep.

Following the shooting, Elkins is alleged to have carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint before fleeing the scene. A police pursuit ensued, culminating in neighboring Bossier Parish, where officers engaged Elkins and he was fatally shot. Authorities have stated that no officers were injured during this encounter.
