44-YEAR-OLD ATHLETE SET FOR QUEEN'S DOUBLES APPEARANCE
Serena Williams, the 44-year-old former world No. 1, is slated to return to professional tennis, competing in the doubles tournament at Queen's. The event is scheduled from June 8th to June 14th. Her participation marks her first return to the sport after becoming a mother. This move places her among a notable group of former top-ranked players who have resumed their careers post-parenthood, a trajectory recently mirrored by Naomi Osaka, according to WTA records. Organizers of the Queen's tournament, posting on X, welcomed her back with the statement, "The Queen is back."
SISTER'S UNCERTAINTY
While Serena Williams's comeback has generated significant buzz, her sister, fellow tennis pro Venus Williams, has yet to witness her sister's practice sessions. Speaking on the American channel TNT, Venus expressed confidence in Serena's playing ability, stating, "I have no doubt she will play well." However, she admitted, "I haven't seen her hit a ball yet, but I have no concerns about her striking quality." The news of Serena's return, partnered with Canadian Victoria Mboko, had already been circulating, particularly after her name appeared on anti-doping control lists. This confirmation solidifies the much-anticipated comeback.
