Health Woes Plague Band’s Milestone Anniversary Shows
The celebrated rock band Scorpions has seen its ongoing 60th Anniversary Tour severely disrupted by the persistent health issues afflicting frontman Klaus Meine. Multiple South American dates have been cancelled, with the latest being a show in Quito, Ecuador, on May 3, 2025, following prior cancellations in Buenos Aires, Argentina (April 26) and Bogotá, Colombia (April 30). Meine, aged 76, has been diagnosed with bacterial bronchitis, rendering him "unable to sing."
The band has cited these “unforeseen medical circumstances” as the reason for the tour’s curtailment. The cancellations follow a string of postponements and setbacks that have marked the anniversary tour. Previously, the band’s planned Las Vegas residency was rescheduled for August due to drummer Mikkey Dee’s recovery from a severe case of sepsis. Guitarist Matthias Jabs also experienced a broken finger and heel from a fall in September of the previous year.

Despite these challenges, the Scorpions maintain a commitment to their music and fans, with plans to continue with their European leg through July and expected U.S. performances in August. However, the immediate future of the tour remains uncertain as Meine battles his illness.
Persistent Health Hurdles Undermine Anniversary Run
The current South American leg has been particularly beleaguered. The Quito cancellation on May 3 was explicitly linked to Meine’s ongoing respiratory infection, which had previously kept him from performing. The diagnosis of bacterial bronchitis compounds an earlier viral infection, severely impacting his vocal capabilities.
Fans have been met with apologies from the band across social media platforms. While the band expresses regret, they are navigating a complex tour schedule. Following the cancelled South American shows, the Scorpions are slated to play two remaining dates in Mexico – May 6 in Aguascalientes and May 8 in Puebla.

The ongoing health issues of their lead singer are the latest in a series of unfortunate events. The band's prior postponement of their Las Vegas residency to August stemmed from drummer Mikkey Dee's brush with life-threatening sepsis.
A Legacy Tested by Time and Ailment
The Scorpions, a band that has scaled down its touring activity in recent years but shows no intention of retiring, finds its 60th anniversary celebrations overshadowed by these persistent health concerns. Meine, who will turn 77 later this month, is reportedly still recovering from the virus that initiated the cancellations.
Adding to the complex narrative surrounding the tour, former guitarist Michael Schenker announced he would not be participating in the anniversary tour, citing an ongoing dispute with his brother and current Scorpions guitarist, Rudolf Schenker. This internal friction, combined with the band members' health struggles, presents a challenging backdrop to what should be a celebratory period.

The band has expressed hope for future engagements in South America, with a promise to make efforts to return to the continent. For now, the focus remains on Meine’s recovery and the band’s ability to fulfil their remaining scheduled performances.
