Director Sam Raimi is set to direct a modern reimagining of the 1978 cult classic horror film, 'Magic'. The project, slated for Lionsgate, will see Raimi collaborate again with writers Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who penned the recent horror-comedy 'Send Help'. This marks Raimi's return to directing within the horror genre, a space that solidified his reputation, following his involvement in projects like 'Oz the Great and Powerful' and 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness'.
Details regarding the plot, cast, and release date for the 'Magic' remake remain undisclosed. Zainab Azizi of Raimi Productions will produce, with Nathan Kahane and Paul Fishkin serving as executive producers. Andrew Childs will also executive produce for Vertigo, alongside Chris Hammond and Tim Sullivan. Meredith Wieck and Pavan Kalidindi are overseeing the project for Lionsgate.

Raimi, known for his work on 'The Evil Dead' franchise and the 'Spider-Man' trilogy, was previously attached to 'Magic' as a producer alongside Roy Lee. His last directorial foray into horror before 'Send Help' was 'Drag Me To Hell'. The original 'Magic', based on William Goldman's novel, starred Anthony Hopkins as Corky Withers, a struggling performer whose success becomes intertwined with his foul-mouthed ventriloquist dummy, Fats, leading to a dangerous dependence and escalating murderous impulses.
Swift and Shannon's recent work on 'Send Help', described as an R-rated horror-comedy that achieved critical and audience acclaim earlier this year, positions them as writers familiar with Raimi's genre sensibilities. The success of 'Send Help' is cited as a key factor in this reunion for the 'Magic' remake.
