Royal Lytham & St Annes will again stage golf's oldest championship, the Open, in 2028. The R&A confirmed the Lancashire links as the host venue for the 156th playing of the event. This marks a return for the course, which last hosted in 2012.
The championship dates have been shifted slightly, running from August 3rd to August 6th, 2028. This adjustment is to accommodate the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, avoiding a clash with the Olympic golf competitions.
Turnberry's Continued Absence
The R&A has acknowledged ongoing discussions with Donald Trump's Turnberry course about a potential future hosting role. However, "off-course logistical challenges" and "tournament infrastructure" issues remain unresolved, preventing its inclusion for now. Meetings with Eric Trump and other Trump Golf leaders were described as constructive but did not overcome these hurdles. Turnberry last hosted the Open in 2009.
