Police deployed pepper spray Saturday at the Roosevelt Field Mall in East Garden City, Long Island, to disperse a large crowd gathered for a special watch release. Reports indicate the crowd, numbering in the hundreds, became unruly and pushed past officers despite repeated warnings. Four individuals were taken into custody, including one for assault in the second degree. The event involved the release of a collaboration between Swatch and Audemars Piguet, identified as the 'Royal Oak Pop' collection.
The situation escalated when the throng at the mall, apparently anticipating the release of limited-edition watches, overwhelmed security and law enforcement. Video footage circulating shows an officer discharging pepper spray into the densely packed group, causing immediate distress and retreat among those affected. The mall's management later cited safety concerns, leading some stores to close their doors without making the watches available for purchase.

The demand for the watches, a joint effort by Swatch and Audemars Piguet, appears to have been exceptionally high, resulting in the significant gathering. Authorities maintained a strong police presence at the location following the incident.
